It removes what lives in the clear coat — swirls, spider-webbing, light scratches, oxidation. If a fingernail catches in the scratch, it's likely too deep to polish out, and you'll be told that honestly before any work starts.
Because paint condition varies. A one-owner garage car might need two hours of single-stage polish; a sun-baked black SUV can need multi-stage work over two days. That's why correction is quoted after inspection instead of a flat menu price.
